IDA presents $1.88 billion Horn of Africa Drought Response Plan
By 2011, more than 12 million people in the Horn of Africa had been hit hard by one of the region's worst droughts in 60 years, with widespread hunger, deaths, and the loss of subsistence crops and livestock. To mitigate the impacts, IDA allocates $250 million through its Crisis Response Window (CRW). The funds will provide support for nutrition, health, energy, agriculture, and sanitation projects for millions of people in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti. The CRW allocation forms a portion of the $1.88 billion Horn of Africa Drought Response Plan formulated by the Bank Group in consultation with international partners.
