First IDA credit for energy sector approved

IDA's first credit in the energy sector is for India to assist in the financing of an expansion of the electric power system of the Damodar Valley Corporation DVC, a semi-autonomous governmental organization that provides power for Calcutta, Jamshedpur, and the Damodar Valley, an area of about 9,250 square miles that is the industrial heart of India. The IDA credit will help finance the addition of a 140,000-kilowatt generating unit at the existing Durgapur thermal power station.
