"It will be an honor for our institution that the meetings will be hosted in Bali Nusa Dua," said World Bank Group President Kim upon the announcement of the meetings' location in 2015.

Detail Description
It is especially appropriate that the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings are held in Indonesia in 2018 given that it will mark the 50th anniversary of three important events in the Bank Group's relationship with the country. In 1968, Bank Group President Robert McNamara made his first trip as World Bank Group president to Indonesia, marking the beginning of an accelerated engagement between the Bank Group and the Indonesian government. That same year the Bank Group approved its first loan to Indonesia and opened a resident mission in Jakarta. The selection of Bali Nusa Dua as the location for the 2018 meetings also has a special connection to the Bank Group's history with Indonesia: the development of Bali Nusa Dua as a world-famous tourist destination was initially supported by the Bank Group's 1974 Bali Tourism Project loan.
