Timeline Description

Indonesia's transmigration program is developed in response to what are considered to be the central challenges of economic development in the country: overpopulation on the island of Java, scarcity of fertile land, and low levels of productivity.

Detail Description
The $30 million loan is the first funding approved by the Bank Group in support of Indonesia's preexisting transmigration program. The loan will aid in the migration of settlers from the heavily populated island of Java to other parts of the country. The project consists of the establishment of a new 4,500-family settlement, the upgrade of an existing 12,000-family settlement, and technical support for design and implementation of future programs.
