President Wolfensohn makes his first visit to Indonesia during a high point in the country's economic development and relationship with the World Bank Group.

Detail Description
President Wolfensohn's first visit to Indonesia took place during a high point in the country's economic development and relationship with the World Bank Group. According to the president's briefing materials, Indonesia has had an "exceptional record of successful collaboration on policy reform" and an "outstanding track record in poverty reduction." At the time of the report's publication, Indonesia is one of the largest IBRD borrowers (11% of portfolio) and is host to the Bank Group's largest resident mission. Wolfensohn's time in Indonesia combines meetings with President Suharto, Indonesian cabinet ministers, representatives of the business community, and NGOs with field visits and cultural excursions. He will return to Indonesia less than two years later to a country in severe political and economic upheaval.
