World Bank Group launches Open Data Initiative

The Open Data Initiative initially makes available more than 2,000 sets of statistics to the public. The initiative provides free and open access to data that had previously been restricted to commercial use and was only available to paying users. President Zoellick, who championed the initiative, says “Statistics tell the story of people in developing and emerging countries and can play an important part in helping to overcome poverty.”
