Eugene R. Black becomes World Bank President

In contrast to the nomination of the World Bank’s first two presidents, the naming of Eugene Black to the post occurs with minimal delay. In fact, the same IBRD press release announcing President McCloy’s resignation also includes the announcement of the new president’s election. Black takes over leadership of the Bank at a point when the transition from reconstruction to development loans is underway.
